The 20-year-old is expected to complete a transfer to St James's Park some time this week from the Belgian giants.
Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba is edging closer to a move to Newcastle United this week, having completed a medical at St James's Park before the weekend, and footage has emerged on Youtube underlining just how much he means to supporters of the Belgian club, something sure to encourage Magpies fans.
After the Brussels side beat Waasland Beveren 3-2 at the weekend, the Anderlecht players took to the pitch to applaud their supporters at the final whistle, with the 20-year-old Congo international joining them to bid farewell to the fans.
Indicating how much the crowd appreciated the player, Mbemba got a great reception, and even jumped up on top of the advertising boards to meet the supporters at one point.
It demonstrated a willingness to bond with fans that most followers of football would love to see from players, and the famously passionate and committed Toon Army could be about to enjoy someone who knows what it takes to build bridges between supporters and players.
Mbemba has made 63 appearances since making his debut for Anderlecht in 2012, and the club and player are now waiting for a visa to be approved in order to complete the transfer, something the Chronicle expect to happen this week.
