Derby County confirmed via Twitter that Jason Shackell will be wearing the number 14 shirt for the Rams next season following his move from Burnley.
The 32-year-old, who previously wore the number 5 shirt in his first stint at the club, will take the squad number that was left by popular defensive midfielder John Eustace last season.
Nevertheless, despite Eustace's popularity and success, in recent years, the likes of Conor Doyle, Tyrone Mears, Kenny Miller, Richard Jackson and Lee Morris have all been given the 14 shirt and the former Norwich defender will hope to show himself in better light than those five did in their time with the Rams.
Shackell, who met his teammates for the first team on Monday, was all smiles on the training pitch as he got his head down to integrate himself into Paul Clement’s side.
He will get the chance to play his first match for the club since his return on Wednesday when Clement’s side take on La Liga heavyweights Villarreal.
Marcelino’s side have been in fantastic form this pre-season, beating the likes of Lyon and Wolfsburg in the past week, so it should be a very difficult task for Clement in his first game in charge at the iPro Stadium.
The former Real Madrid assistant will be able to give his side a few pointers after seeing the Spanish side close up last season, but it’s a game the Rams should focus on the performance in and not the result.
A win would be an outstanding achievement and send a message out to the rest of the Championship that the favourites are up to speed and ready for the new season.
