Neymar comments on Ballon d’Or chances, facing Lionel Messi

Neymar

The Brazil and Barcelona star is not comparing himself to his illustrious club team-mate.

Brazilian attacker Neymar is not trying to better Lionel Messi in a bid to win the Ballon d’Or, as per Marca.

The former Santos prodigy played an essential part in a devastating Barcelona attack that won the treble last season and as such is being tipped for potential inclusion in the shortlist for the 2015 Ballon d’Or award.

However, with Messi is superb individual form since the turn of the year, edging out the Argentine is quite the task.

Neymar has admitted that he is only focusing on his own game and not outdoing some of the world’s best players.

"I want to follow my own path. I don't want to be better than anyone, just better than I am,” Marca quote the superstar forward as saying.

Neymar is set to face Messi when Argentina and Brazil clash in World Cup qualifying and knows that his fellow Barcelona attacker will take some shackling.

"Messi is a star. Playing against him is not good; it's bad. It's going to be a tough game,” he added.

Barcelona won the treble last season in Luis Enrique’s first campaign in charge at Camp Nou, with Neymar scoring 22 La Liga goals along the way - the most he has netted in a single campaign in his career.

The Brazilian’s strike against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League has been included on the shortlist for Uefa Goal of the Season.

It is widely expected to be Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and one other in the race to win this year’s Ballon d’Or accolade.
