The Ghana international striker has joined the Villans on a five-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on Monday, and it seems that Villa manager Sherwood was a key factor in his decision to move to the Premier League outfit.
“When I spoke to the coach I knew this was the place for me,” Ayew told Villa’s official website.
“I didn't think twice. I knew he was the right coach for me. He has so much enthusiasm and determination for the game of football.
“It took 10 seconds to work out he was the right coach for me and Aston Villa was the right team for me.”
Good signing for Aston Villa?
Ayew is the latest player to move to Villa this summer and is the third from Ligue 1 to join the Premier League outfit since the end of the 2014-15 season after Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye.
The former Marseille man will be expected to add something extra to Villa’s attack, although he is not a very prolific striker.
Last season, the 23-year-old scored 12 goals and created 34 chances in 31 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille.
Ayew had a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 59%, and won 69 headers, 37 dribbles and tackles.
