The Australian suggested that Villa have started to lose their way a little bit after the key departures of Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke, revealing he’s wary that the club may not be able to attract high quality replacements.
“It’s going to be a very tough year for Aston Villa – They’ve lost their way and they need to be very, very careful because with top players these days, they want to be playing in the Champions League and contesting for trophies,” he told talkSPORT.
“They need to be careful that they don’t get rid of too many players and have a massive bank account and fantastic support but you’re playing in the Championship.”
Time to trust Tim Sherwood
Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is not a naïve manager and he wouldn’t have been sitting idly by as his best players up sticks for a fresh challenge.
He has already been proactive in the transfer market and will continue to seek fresh additions to the squad, who will give him some extra options for the long and testing season which lays ahead.
He’s a very confident and charismatic manager and hopefully that will come across when he talks to more targets, who may have the option for pushing to join a club in a better position.
The one thing that’s certain with Sherwood is that he will fight tooth and nail to stop another key player from leaving, because he will definitely be wary of the effect that losing even more players will have.
