Following the departure of Christian Benteke, the Villa boss had a tough task on his hands in bringing in a solid replacement who could make up at least a number of the goals lost with the Belgian’s exit.
After much speculation and jostling between the parties involved, Villa have finally completed the signing of Ayew, a player who notched 12 Ligue 1 goals last season.
Possessing plenty of movement and comfortable playing in a number of forward roles, Sherwood believes the club’s new recruit is perfect for the rigors of Premier League football.
"I'm really pleased to bring Jordan to the football club. He is a fantastic young player who is perfectly suited to the Premier League,” Sherwood explained to Aston Villa's website.
What can Aston Villa fans expect?
The Ghana international is not typically a centre-forward in the mould of Benteke, though his best position is down the middle and he likes to create space with movement and excellent dribbling ability.
Last season, he attempted an impressive 3.6 shots per league encounter, proof that he isn’t shy to pull the trigger in the final third and has the ability to create chances for himself.
Not finished yet:
Ayew’s arrival is seemingly one of a number of forward players Sherwood is targeting, with reports in the Daily Mail claiming a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Emmanuel Adebayor is close.
