Jose Angel Crespo was involved in an altercation with Cristiano Ronaldo last season when Cordoba took on Real Madrid which saw the Portuguese Ballon d'Or winner red carded.
The 28-year-old is a former Spanish under-21 international, and has previously played for Bologna and Sevilla.
Crespo can play at both full-back and centre-back and his versatility could make him a useful signing for the club. Last season he featured for Cordoba at left-back and right-back as well as centrally.
He played 27 La Liga games for Cordoba last season, being booked six times. His team won just three of the matches in which he played.
Villa currently have a transfer windfall to spend after cashing in on Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke.
