Derby County manager Paul Clement has hinted that he's happy with the current condition of his squad.

Derby County manager Paul Clement has hinted in the Derby Telegraph that he’s happy with the squad options he’s assembled over the course of the summer.

The Derby boss hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of further signings, but has suggested that he’s satisfied with the options he’s got in all positions, as the Rams prepare for a long campaign where they will be aiming for promotion into the Premier League.

“We are getting there, if we are not quite there already. Maybe there is one other small thing to do, we will have to see, but I am very satisfied with the players,” he told the Derby Telegraph.

“We are spoilt for choice throughout the squad – through the back, the midfield and in the striking department.”

No excuses for Clement and the club

Clement’s comments mean there are no excuses for the club not being competitive from the very opening weekends of the season.

He came in to replace former manager Steve McClaren, quickly worked out where he wanted new players and was backed to bring them into the football club.

It’s not going to be a simple and easy season for the Rams and there will be challenges, which the club need to embrace to achieve their main aim.

What the new signings give Derby is the potential to grit their way through difficult periods where the team will have injuries and suspensions which they need to deal with.

Clement has added Premier League experience to his squad, which means players in key positions who are already used to playing at a higher level and if Derby don’t win promotion, they should be looking internally this time next year.
