Parlour was quizzed over whether Adebayor would be a good signing for Villa and suggested that Sherwood would want to work with the player, not because the pair did well at Tottenham, but because he’s got similar characteristics for former Villa forward Christian Benteke.
Benteke’s move to Liverpool has long been confirmed and Sherwood is still working on ways he can look to replace the forward ahead of the new season.
“I think he’ll go for Adebayor because he’s got a bit of presence because Benteke always had the bit of presence whenever he played,” he told talkSPORT.
Presence is vital for Aston Villa’s attack
It’s very important that Aston Villa’s attack retains some presence and punch for the new season.
Benteke was superb for the club in the way that he pushed opposition defences and bullied them, to create opportunities for himself, as well as creating space for the more talented midfielders to run into.
Adebayor is someone who can play that role and he could thrive under a manager who has shown he’s got belief in him previously and given the chance to play regularly.
What are Villa’s chances of getting him?
Villa have a good chance of they are interested because they are a huge Premier League football club.
The main challenge comes from Swansea City according to the Daily Star, with the paper suggesting that the Swans are apparently keen in case they lost forward Bafetimbi Gomis.
Sherwood’s ability to persuade and show his confidence will be tested to the limit if the two sides are forced into a tug of war, but Villa should be confident they can win.
