Jordan Amavi explains his decision to join Aston Villa

Jordan Amavi moved from Nice to Aston Villa earlier this month.

Jordan Amavi has explained to L’Equipe why he joined Aston Villa this summer.

The 21-year-old defender moved to the Premier League outfit from French club Nice earlier this month.

According to The Daily Mail, the Villans had to pay as much as £10 million for the services of the young left-back.

Amavi has revealed why he decided to join Tim Sherwood’s Villa side despite interest from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, who are guaranteed a place in the group stage of the Champions League in the upcoming 2015-15 campaign.

"You have to make decisions," he told L’Equipe when asked if he regrets not joining Lyon, as translated by Get French Football News. "Lyon would have also allowed me to progress, but it didn’t happen."

When pointed out that initially he wanted to remain in Ligue 1, Amavi explained: "Yes. But after that Aston Villa made me an offer.

"I spoke with my family about it. It is not easy to make the right choice. They want to build a competitive team, to return to success."

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Amavi is a talented left-back who was considered as one of the most promising in his position in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old established himself as a key player for Nice over the past two seasons, showing his quality both defensively and in attack.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Amavi scored four goals and created 32 chances in 36 Ligue 1 appearances.

The youngster had a pass accuracy of 74% and a shot accuracy of 38%, and won 111 headers, 67 dribbles and 111 tackles.
