Erik Lamela has been linked with a surprise exit from Tottenham.
Erik Lamela has been linked with a Tottenham exit - on the day he joined back up with the club for pre-season in the USA.
It is claimed the deal would be a loan move, with Porto having an option to buy of 7.5m Euros - which works out at just £5.3 million.
Considering Spurs paid more than five times this amount, it is hard to see the club agreeing to such a deal.
Lamela remains their record signing, and despite an injury ravaged first season, he showed real signs of improvement last season.
He provided more assists and played more key passes than Liverpool's Coutinho, in two fewer games - yet the Brazilian was voted into the PFA Team of the Season.
Spurs owe it to themselves to give Lamela at least a third season, to see if the Argentine can take it up a notch.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is an astute negotiator when it comes to selling players, managing to get £20 million plus combined for Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli.
It's highly unlikely to see him sanction a deal which would see Spurs gain to little, both from a sporting and financial sense - and to this end fans should not worry too much about the claims.
I don’t know where this ‘Lamela to Porto’ rumour came from but it’s so badly formulated, it makes no sense to even consider it being genuine— Andrew Gaffney (@GaffneyVLC) July 27, 2015
Erik Lamela to Porto is probably the silliest rumour I've read this summer— Harry Charalambous⚽️ (@TransitionTHFC) July 27, 2015
There is no way we'd loan out Lamela for 1 year and have an option to buy for just 7mil. That's absurd.— Nostradamus (@Nxstra) July 27, 2015
Spurs paid £30m for Lamela. No chance they'd let a 23 y/o forward go for 7.5m€.— Portista (@FCPortoWorld) July 27, 2015
