Derby County manager Paul Clement is keen to link up with new signing Jason Shackell.

Derby County manager Paul Clement has told the club’s official website that he’s looking forward to meeting and working with new signing Jason Shackell this week.

Clement has confirmed that he and the rest of the squad are set to meet up with the defender following his move to the club from fellow Championship side Burnley.

Clement is also keen for the team to step up their pre-season preparations ahead of a match against Spanish side Villarreal.

“We’ll be back in on Monday and cracking on with our work ahead of Villarreal,” he told dcfc.co.uk.

“We will have Jason Shackell to meet as well, which is something I’m looking forward to doing too.”

“He is coming into a very good group of players; they’ve been working hard and for each other.”

Positive frame of mind is encouraging

The fact Clement appears to be in such an upbeat mood following the club’s trip to the Netherlands is definitely a positive.

The results have been good and the fitness has slowly been building ahead of the new Championship season, which will be a high pressure campaign for the club.

The team should now have a spring in their step as the intensity increases a little bit more ahead of that important first game.

The challenge for Shackell

The dust has long since settled on Shackell’s move to the club and the challenge for the player is fitting into a well-balanced and gelled team.

There should be enough character and quality already in the Derby ranks for the club’s new signing to feel comfortable and at home, which will give him a greater chance of being effective quicker at the start of the season.
