Aston Villa assistant Ray Wilkins provides update over Jordan Ayew

Aston Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins has confirmed transfer target Jordan Ayew is in the country and awaiting a medical.

Aston Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins told talkSPORT that potential new signing Jordan Ayew is in the country and is awaiting a medical.

The Birmingham Mail is among the sources to have reported that a fee has already been agreed between Villa and Lorient, but Wilkins told the radio station there is still a little bit of leg work to do before the deal becomes official.

“He’s in the country but he’s yet to have a medical – We’re just waiting on that,” he told talkSPORT.

A good piece of business by Tim Sherwood

The move, if it goes through without any complications, is a good piece of business by Tim Sherwood and he deserves a pat on the back for identifying an attacking addition who can come in and help his squad.

He’s not showing any signs of sitting on the cash generated by the sales of Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke and is trying to take a little bit of pressure away from the football club.

The signing that Sherwood still needs to make

While Ayew would represent a good attacking addition for the football club, there is still arguably a need for Sherwood to bring someone in who is more along the lines of a direct replacement for Benteke.

Ayew doesn’t have the same sort of presence and physical stature as the Belgian forward, but it’s definitely a positive to see Sherwood so active in the transfer market.
