Signing Xherdan Shaqiri would be a statement of intent from Newcastle

Xherdan Shaqiri

Xherdan Shaqiri has been linked with a move from Inter Milan to Newcastle United.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Newcastle United are interested in signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan this summer.

Shaqiri moved to Inter from Bayern Munich only in the January transfer window, but it seems that the Italian giants are ready to sell the Switzerland international winger this summer.

The 23-year-old has not had the best of times for the past three or so years, but there is no dispute about his quality.

If Newcastle sign Shaqiri this summer, then they will be making a statement of intent and showing that they mean business.

This is a player who has a very evident winning mentality and who has won loads of trophies already.

Shaqiri won the Swiss Super League title with FC Basel as many as three times, and the Bundesliga twice and the Champions League once with Bayern Munich.

While one could claim that Bayern would have won those titles without the Swiss, the fact that the Bundesliga giants signed him in the first place indicates his natural ability.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Shaqiri has genuine talent. What he needs is to play regularly and a confidence boost.
