Report: Newcastle unlikely to stand in Coloccini's way if he seeks exit

The defender, linked with a move to Crystal Palace, could be set to leave St James' Park.

Newcastle United will not stand in Fabricio Coloccini's way should the club captain opt to leave Tyneside this summer, according to the Shields Gazette.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace by several reports, including one from the Mirror, and has also been left out of a number of Newcastle friendlies.

The Gazette report that injury has curtailed Coloccini's pre-season but that the St James' Park outfit are also unlikely to stand in his way should the defender want to leave for Crystal Palace or elsewhere.

The right time for everyone?

Coloccini's form last season may well have been taken under consideration by Steve McClaren and the Newcastle coach can't be blamed if he has decided to let the Argentine go.

It could be a simple case of injury for the 33-year-old, of course, but a Newcastle departure might come at the right time for everyone. At 33, Coloccini may well want a fresh challenge, away from the pressures of a club that struggled last season and at which he himself struggled big time.

Rather than work twice as hard to win over the Magpies faithful, the centre-back may well be tempted by the prospect of an Alan Pardew reunion at Crystal Palace.
