The Italians may look to sign the French defender this summer.
The Italian side have been looking to add a left-back to their side all summer and had targeted defender Ervin Zukanovic but he elected to join Serie A rivals Sampdoria instead.
They were also targeting Chelsea’s Filipe Luis, with the Brazilian looking set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, but a return to former club Atletico Madrid in Spain is increasingly likely for him ahead of a move to Italy.
That has led to manager Roberto Mancini reportedly targeting Clichy, with the Italian having been the man who brought him to the Etihad in the first place and obviously enjoying a positive relationship with his former player.
However, despite that relationship the Corriere dello Sport believes that a deal would be hard to arrange for the defender with it likely to be until late in the market before a move can be struck, with Inter likely to monitor the situation carefully until then.
A move to Italy may be favourable
Clichy may fancy a move to Italy given the competition he faces for the left-back spot with Aleksandar Kolarov every season.
Inter is an attractive prospect this summer as well, as they have spent heavily to improve their squad after a disappointing campaign last year.
A link up with former manager Mancini will likely be attractive to him as well, although whether City will agree to a sale is yet to be seen.
