Photos: Georginio Wijnaldum scores again as Newcastle are held by Sheffield United

Newcastle United were held to a 2-2 draw by League One side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Newcastle United produced a mixed performance at Bramall Lane in their friendly clash with Sheffield United; a testimonial match that concluded in a 2-2 scoreline.

Steve McClaren’s side were twice in the lead against the League One outfit but ultimately they could not do enough to ensure victory.

Newcastle fans were delighted to cheer goals from Dutch duo Gini Wijnaldum and Siem De Jong, who will surely be key players this term.

Georginio Wijnaldum, the £14.5 million midfielder signed from PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer, scored the opener for the Magpies, netting for the second time in as many appearances.

The Dutchman was on hand to display his class, controlling the game from the centre of the park, with his strike opening the scoring.

Following Marc McNulty's equaliser, Siem de Jong, who replaced Wijnaldum with 17 minutes to go, looked to have won it for the Magpies when he scored with only 10 minutes left on the clock.

However, Kieron Freeman's goal saw the Magpies pinned back at the death.

Below are a few snaps from Newcastle's pre-season display.
