Newcastle United are edging closer to a deal for another player.
The 20-year-old Congo international has played 76 matches for the Belgian side, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in the process. But it seems his time there is coming to an end as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of Aleksandar Mitrovic, who swapped one club for the other last week.
The Newcastle statement confirmed that an agreement is in place regarding a fee for the player, that personal terms have also been agreed and that the youngster has completed his medical. However, while the documentation required to apply for a visa was submitted last week it will not be considered until this coming Thursday.
That is when the FA will be able to convene a panel and it means that Mbemba’s deal will not be officially announced for another few days.
While that is a blow for those Newcastle fans hoping to celebrate the club’s third summer signing it seems only a matter of time before the centre-back is confirmed as being able to play for the Magpies next season.
He is young, talented, a senior international and he looks set to blossom into a fine defender, so it would come as a huge surprise if the FA ruled against granting the new Newcastle man a work permit.
