The Cameroonian is reportedly a major target for Spurs this summer.
Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear that a reported Tottenham Hotspur target will not be leaving the club this summer, despite recent reports.
The player in question is Cameroonian speedster Clinton N’Jie and Aulas is quoted as telling Eurosport:
"Clinton is under contract until 2018 and he will be with us next year."
This comes in the light of Tottenham’s reported bid for the player. It was reported by the London Evening Standard earlier in the week that Spurs had made their interest for the forward clear, with an apparent £7 million bid being lodged.
N’Jie came to the fore at Lyon last season. He scored seven times last term, bagging the same number of assists, in 31 appearances for Lyon. Four of his goals came in the final six games of the season, so he finished in some style.
His pace is a real weapon that Tottenham perhaps lack in the attacking department at the moment, which might have been behind their interest.
However, it would appear that Lyon will not be selling him this summer.
Do Spurs need him?
They certainly need someone like him. Harry Kane was practically the only Tottenham striker for most of last season. Roberto Soldado couldn’t hit a barn door and Emmanuel Adebayor again proved to be something of a distraction.
They also lack pace up front, so N’Jie would have been perfect. It looks like they will need to look elsewhere for the time being, but the interest at least shows they are looking in the right areas.
