The former Premier League midfielder is delighted with his nephew's progress and also commented on his young team-mate.
Former Premier League midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha is delighted with nephew Alex Iwobi's progress at Arsenal after the 19-year-old forward scored for the north London side during their 6-0 win over Lyon in the Emirates Cup.
Iwobi was on the scoresheet as the Gunners wowed fans at the Emirates with six different goalscorers.
As ever, it was only a pre-season friendly but it was a sign that Arsenal's squad are very much getting into shape ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
And Okocha has praised Arsene Wenger for the job he is doing with his teenage nephew Iwobi.
My Nephew Alex Iwobi marked his Emirate's debut with a goal.. Great stuff Alex.. Wenger is really doing a great job with the young star..— Jay-Jay Okocha (@IAmOkocha) July 25, 2015
Meanwhile, Okocha also spoke of another 19-year-old forward in Chuba Akpom, whose father is a 'good friend' of the Nigerian's.
He believes Akpom is also on the right track, referring to his hat-trick earlier in pre-season.
Chuba Akpom whose dad is a good friend of mine is also on the right course..a heart trick in their Asian trip says a lot about what to come— Jay-Jay Okocha (@IAmOkocha) July 25, 2015
As ever, there is a long way to go for either Arsenal forward if they are to make a lasting impact with the Gunners. Akpom has been a regular pre-season fixture, though, and Iwobi's efforts have got him noticed across the board so far this summer. Any further progress will be very interesting to note.
