The Pole is all set to join AS Roma after Arsenal signed Petr Cech.
Arsenal are reportedly set to let Wojciech Szczesny head to AS Roma on a season-long loan deal, according to Arsene Wenger himself.
He told the Arsenal official website yesterday that the deal was near completion for the Pole to spend next term with the Gialorossi after he became the club’s third choice keeper behind new signing Petr Cech and Colombian international David Ospina.
One man who seems surprised by this is Arsenal goalkeeping legend David Seaman.
Seaman is Arsenal’s most capped goalkeeper in history and played 325 league games for the club, so there is little doubting his legend at the club.
He took to Twitter to signify his surprise at Szczesny’s impending move away from the club:
"Wow that's surprising but one of them had to go I suppose!! ..." http://t.co/i7mGF4TN3K— David Seaman (@thedavidseaman) July 24, 2015
He then went on to make it clear who he thought should be the number one at Arsenal, with Petr Cech his preferred option:
"It has to be Cech as I think he will have a big impact at Arsenal!!..." http://t.co/B8FAWdfc7L— David Seaman (@thedavidseaman) July 24, 2015
The signing of the Chelsea veteran is a fantastic coup from Arsenal and it is seeing them heavily tipped for Premier League glory this term, perhaps more so than in recent campaigns.
Will Szczesny be back?
The Pole is a talent but for the past 18 months he has gone stagnant. On top of that he has also been a distraction off the pitch and Arsenal must be happy to have a reliable option instead between the sticks.
If he is a hit at Roma the Italians might want to keep hold of him but Arsenal may indeed decide to bring him back, considering Cech’s advancing years this might just be the plan.
