Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout.

According to the latest reports from the French publication L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur are readying a €15 million bid [£10.6 million] for Nantes star Jordan Veretout.

Following the summer sales of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and most recently Benjamin Stambouli, Spurs have plenty of space for midfield additions ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Reported targets Giannelli Imbula, according to the Mirror, and Geoffrey Kondogbia via the Daily Mail, have already been missed out on as the duo completed deals elsewhere.

With Mauricio Pochettino seemingly identifying midfield as his next top priority, reports in France believe the North Londoners have pinpointed Veretout as their ideal option.

“Jordan Veretout is eagerly courted by Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League clubs. Spurs are ready to offer €15 million [£10.6m] to secure his services,” the report states,

Who is Jordan Veretout?

Veretout, 22, is predominantly a central midfielder who featured 36 times in Ligue 1 last season, scoring seven goals and adding a further six assists as Nantes finished comfortably in mid-table.

Capable of playing also in a more attacking role, the France under-21 international’s key attributes include playing through balls, creating chances and his set-piece taking.

That said, he is also willing to do the defensive work and last season averaged 1.9 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per Ligue 1 encounter, a notable tally considering.

Given his age, he falls in line with the club’s philosophy of buying younger stars and developing them accordingly, although as a word of warning, Spurs’ transfer record in France is largely inconsistent.
