Report: Arsenal rival Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus

Marco Reus

The Gunners are reported to believe the Germany star could push them closer to the Premier League title.

Arsenal are ready to hijack Liverpool’s potential move for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, report The Telegraph.

The Reds have long been linked with a move for the Germany star, with the Liverpool Echo claiming they were planning on making a £46 million move for the star following the sale of Raheem Sterling.

Brendan Rodgers’ side may face competition for his signature though, as it seems Arsenal will look to hijack the transfer, with Arsene Wenger having identified him as a player to push them closer to the title next season.

According to the report in The Telegraph the big asking price for his services is not a deterring factor, while securing Reus would not change any plans that the Frenchman has to bring in a superstar striker this summer.

A star signing but potential problems for Walcott

If Arsenal were to sign Reus, it is not hard to imagine them becoming firm title favourites for next season.

With him on one side and Alexis Sanchez on the other, their forward line would arguably be one of the most formidable in the league, with the German enjoying an impressive goal scoring record in Germany.

It would though, bring into question the futures of the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott, who would struggle to get ahead of the German in the side given his star quality.

Perhaps then, if Reus were to arrive at the Emirates this summer Walcott would seek a move away, with him unlikely to accept further time sitting on the bench.
