Newly-signed Coventry City midfielder Ruben Lameiras has told the club’s official website that a conversation with Tottenham Hotspur youngster Grant Ward played a role in his decision to join the League One outfit.
Lameiras joined Coventry on Friday on a two-year contract following a trial with the club after leaving Spurs when his contract ran out at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
The 20-year-old midfielder is close friends with Ward, who is on the books of Tottenham at the moment.
Ward, also a midfielder who has been loaned out to Championship outfit Rotherham United until January, played for Coventry on loan from Spurs from March until the end of the 2014-15 season.
It seems that the 20-year-old enjoyed his spell at the Ricoh Arena and recommended Lameiras to move to the Sky Blues.
“Grant is one of my closest friends," Portuguese youngster Lameiras told Coventry’s official website. "He really enjoyed it here and I spoke to him about the club and the set-up.
“He gave the club a glowing reference and based on his review, I thought I should definitely come down and I'm pleased I had that chat with him!”
Lameiras will now be looking to start from scratch and get his career back on track.
It must have been a disappointment to the Portuguese youngster to have been released by Tottenham after four years at White Hart Lane, but he now needs to make the most of the chance he has got at Coventry.
