Leeds United have reportedly kept tabs on the Catania winger for some time.
The 27-year-old was recently linked with a move to Leeds by The Yorkshire Evening Post. They claimed that Leeds owner Massimo Cellino was a big fan of the player, who could fill the problem left-wing position at Elland Road.
However they also claimed that a passport issue made a deal unlikely.
Indeed the same publication reported late last week that Leeds had in fact given up on the player. They claimed that Martinho had been discussed but no pursuit would be made as it was deemed futile.
The news will come as a blow to Leeds fans who still rave a new winger for this team. However Martinho was not really the answer. The Brazilian is not what Leeds need on the left-hand side if they are to earn promotion this season.
The hunt now goes on for Leeds to fill perhaps their last remaining problem position, as the new season looms ever closer.
