Real Sociedad tire of waiting for Arsenal decision over Joel Campbell; turn attention to Elche striker Jonathas instead

David Moyes no longer wishes to wait for a Joel Campbell decision, seeing Celtic-linked Elche striker Jonathas as an alternative attacking reinforcement.

After waiting patiently in their pursuit of Costa Rica international Joel Campbell, who was regarded as a principal transfer target for Real Sociedad, the Basque club are fed up of waiting for Arsenal to accept their offer, according to regional newspaper Diario Vasco.

Following a visit to London for talks with in June, after which Real Sociedad sporting director Loren was expecting a swift decision from Arsenal, a lack of movement on their part has lead him to consider other targets instead.

Indeed, the reports now suggest Real Sociedad are willing to forget entirely about Campbell, unless Arsenal reach a decision within the coming days, simply requiring a 'yes' or 'no' decision from the Gunners, so they can plan their next moves accordingly.

As such, Real Sociedad have now advanced talks to sign Brazilian striker Jonathas, who wishes to activate his relegation release clause with Elche, following their administrative demotion to the Spanish second-tier, for failing to meet financial obligations under La Liga regulations.

The 26-year-old was hugely impressive for Elche last season, scoring 14 goals in La Liga and providing seven assists, which has subsequently attracted a wealth of interest from clubs throughout Europe.

Celtic reportedly remain keen according to The Express, whilst in Spain, a number of La Liga clubs beyond Real Sociedad are monitoring his situation. After Sevilla ruled out an approach, El Desmarque claim city rivals Real Betis have been offered Jonathas by his agent, who has also held talks on behalf of his client with Espanyol and Malaga.

The 2015-16 campaign begins in just four weeks time, which means Real Sociedad and David Moyes are keen to complete their transfer business. Having already made key signings in defence and midfield, the objective is now to secure the reinforcements needed in the attacking third.
