The Etihad Stadium outfit chief has confessed that the Argentina international will miss the start of the season.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that star striker Sergio Aguero is set to miss the start of the Premier League season, with doubts whether he will feature against title rivals Chelsea in the second fixture of the campaign, as per Goal.
The former Atletico Madrid man featured in the Copa America over the summer and was part of the Argentina side that was beaten in the competition final by hosts Chile.
Aguero, along with fellow tournament competitors Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis and Fernandinho, has been given an extended break to recover from international duty.
However, Pellegrini has confessed that the hotshot forward and the other three stars are likely to miss City’s opening game away to West Brom - with fears that the blockbuster clash with Chelsea the following week could come too soon for them also.
"I think in football it's so important to work hard but also resting has the same importance," Pellegrini is quoted as saying by Goal.
"You have so many games throughout the year that if you don’t give them 30 days after they’ve finished their internationals, it's very difficult for them to work hard.
"It's more difficult for the South American players because Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho finished later, the first days of July, so they won't have 30 days.
"I think when we return to Manchester they will start their pre-season. Maybe they will not be involved in the first game but I am sure they will work hard and will be involved as soon as they can.”
Although the Etihad Stadium outfit will be confident of replacing the other three players as City have a star-studded squad, the absence of Aguero against Chelsea would be acutely felt.
The early season fixture has the potential to give one team or the other an early impetus in the race for the title, with the rivals set to be two of the frontrunners again next season.
Jose Mourinho would surely prefer to face a City side without star man Aguero, and would be more confident of getting a result at the Etihad Stadium if the Argentine was unavailable or not match fit.
