The now third tier Italian side have ambitions and want Balotelli in on them.
Speaking with GianlucaDiMarzio.com, the former AC Milan and Livorno stopper, who was part of the Italian side that won the World Cup in Germany back in 2006, wants to ask Balotelli to join a team he has recently become honorary president at Italian lower league side Lupa Castelli Romani.
They will play next season in the Lega Pro C, the third tier of Italian football, after promotion from Serie D. Effectively, it would be like Burton Albion trying to snap him up now.
Amelia knows an approach would be futile – but he maintains it would be good for his friend Balotelli to come and join the club:
"In the coming days I will try to call [Mario] Balotelli to get him to come here.
“Six months here would be useful to him to start the path of purification. He must regain humility and enthusiasm that allowed him to break into football matters when he was starting out.
“It will be difficult, almost impossible, but I will try anyway. I hope that the importance of the city of Rome and our friendship helps me."
Of course it won’t happen, but Balotelli is going to have a real battle on his hand for playing time at Liverpool this season.
Divock Origi has arrived and Daniel Sturridge will be back to fitness. They have also secured the signings of Danny Ings and Christian Benteke, meaning Balotelli might just be the club’s fifth choice striker this term.
Maybe a move to the third tier of Italian football could do him some good, even if just for a little while.
Amelia hopes Balotelli agrees.
