The former Tottenham man will come up against the north London side in a friendly soon.
The north London side will meet the 32-year-old in an upcoming friendly and Belgian defender Vertonghen knows what he is all about.
As such, he is eagerly anticipating the Dempsey reunion - as well as the pre-season clash as a whole.
Vertonghen told the Spurs site: "It will be great to play against Clint. He’s a good guy, a very good player and I haven’t seen him in a while so I’m looking forward to it.
"We know he can score goals but we will try to stop him this week. It’ll certainly be a test to play against him and it’s sure to be another quality game for us. We’ve never faced the All-Stars before so it will be a great occasion for us as players and for the fans.
"It’s another game as we build towards the first match of the season, so hopefully we can get some more minutes and match fitness under our belts."
Dempsey's time at Tottenham was short lived but the American's first goal for the club won't be forgotten any time soon.
Indeed, Dempsey netted Spurs' third goal in a 3-2 win at Manchester United, one that proved to be the winner, securing the north London side's first win at Old Trafford in 23 years.
Like many who have left Tottenham in recent years, the 32-year-old just couldn't quite fit in at White Hart Lane, despite showing flashes of his obvious ability. As Vertonghen states, though, his ability is still there and his old side are likely to see it in abundance soon.
It's only a friendly - but Dempsey will provide a good test for the Spurs back line.
