Denis Cheryshev comments on his Real Madrid future

Denis Cheryshev has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev has told the Spanish paper Marca that he is happy to remain in the Spanish capital amid reports of a bid from Premier League side Liverpool.

As per a recent report in The Mirror, the Reds tabled a £22 million bid for the Russian international as manager Brendan Rodgers seeks further firepower in his squad.

Cheryshev’s chances of regular first-team action with Madrid are slim, especially considering his best position as a left winger is currently occupied by Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the player has been involved in the club’s pre-season campaign and with boss Rafael Benitez keeping an open mind regarding playing options, the 24-year-old states that he is happy to stay.

"I'm available for the club, I have a contract and I'm happy. I'm here for whatever the club needs. It's obvious that all of us players want to play. Benítez is paying attention to everyone. I'm very grateful to him,” Cheryshev told reporters for the Spanish paper Marca.

Should Liverpool pursue a summer deal for Denis Cheryshev?

The hard-working winger spent last season on loan at fellow La Liga side Villarreal, showcasing his talents with seven goals and an impressive 11 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

However, in spite of his evident ability, the Reds are currently overloaded with wide options as new signings Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino and James Milner can all play on the wing.

Moreover, bringing in Chershev would likely restrict Jordan Ibe’s chances of first-team football, a situation which could ultimately restrict the youngster from realising his potential at the club.
