Warnock: Sherwood has two options in terms of replacing Benteke

Former Premier League boss Neil Warnock feels Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood can go one of two ways as he looks to replace Christian Benteke.

Former Premier League boss Neil Warnock told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT that he feels Aston Villa have two options in terms of replacing Christian Benteke.

Benteke’s move to Liverpool has been confirmed, which leaves Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood with the challenge of signing someone who can do a similar job for the Aston Villa attack over the course of the season.

“They have to get realistic targets; a younger player on loan for a year or someone like Adebayor who Tim knows,” he told talkSPORT.

A youngster

Sherwood did show a good ability to work with younger players during his time at Tottenham Hotspur and he’s also had a positive impact on the development of Jack Grealish.

He seems to give younger players the belief and confidence that they can get stuck into a big challenge at a big football club, producing an impressive end product as a result.

The issue is where he goes to get a younger player on loan in terms of staying within the Premier League or looking abroad.

The top clubs in England will surely be impressed by the way Villa play under him, which shouldn’t make any loan moves difficult.

Someone like Adebayor

Sherwood could target someone like Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, which makes sense because his current side is based around that sort of commanding striker.

However, it would be typical Sherwood if he decided to switch things up and make his team slightly unpredictable for opposition sides over the early part of the season, which arguably improves the team’s chances of getting a good start.
