The West Ham veteran very nearly did not have the last laugh.
Even when the likes of Juventus, Fiorentina and Benfica were chasing after Fabrizio Miccoli the Italian was never in the best of shape.
The diminutive forward was always a little on the tubby side, even during his time as a fan favourite with Palermo.
That was obviously something that West Ham man Mark Noble thought might work as a weapon against the Italian international – who played 10 times, scoring twice for the Azzurri.
The West Ham star was caught mocking the 36-year-old last night, whilst facing off against each other in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match in Malta.
Of course, despite Noble’s sledging, it was almost Miccoli who got the last laugh.
The only puffing of cheeks Noble really had to do in the game was in frustration, as Maltese minnows Birkirkara took them to the brink.
Miccoli in fact scored the only goal of a heated tie in which West Ham eventually came out on top via penalties, red faced and by the skin of their teeth.
So while Noble had a good laugh at Miccoli’s bulky appearance, he ended up being lucky that Miccoli did not have the last laugh.
