The French international is what Spurs need to get into the Champions League.
Foot Mercato in France claimed that Spurs had been in touch regarding a potential £15 million deal. Then The Chronicle came out and made it clear no such contact had been made, with the local source the more likely to be accurate.
However the rumour is now out there and will likely linger for some time and if there is any interest from Tottenham they must make the move stick as soon as possible.
At the moment Spurs still look like they will come up short next season. One area of serious concern remains the midfield.
The likes of Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb, Mousa Dembele and Tom Carroll are all great players. Each one is gifted on the ball and passes neat and tidy but where is the drive, where is the swashbuckler who can turn a game on its head.
That was supposed to be Paulinho, but he flopped. Now they need a player in the mould of Sissoko.
Sissoko’s ability to get on the ball and run at defenders is something Spurs lack in the midfield. That spark of dynamism they will need if they are to sneak into the top four in what could be one of the most competitive Premier League seasons in history.
If Sissoko is not the target, than someone in that mould has to be if Spurs are serious about a Champions League place this campaign.
