According to The Sun, Aston Villa have tabled a £6m offer for Blackburn Rovers hitman Rudy Gestede, with Tim Sherwood looking to sign a new striker.
Sherwood saw star striker and top goalscorer Christian Benteke leave the club on Wednesday, with the Belgian heading for Premier League rivals Liverpool.
The Reds activated Benteke's £32.5m release clause, presenting Sherwood with a huge transfer kitty to work with as he looks to find a replacement ahead of the new season.
Now, The Sun report that Sherwood is keen on Blackburn ace Gestede, and has submitted an initial bid of £6m, which could rise to £8m with add-ons.
Gestede, 26, has been nothing short of a goal machine since leaving Cardiff City for Blackburn, hitting 22 goals for Rovers last season as he overshadowed Jordan Rhodes in Gary Bowyer's frontline.
It's also stated in the report that Sherwood would like to tie up a deal for Gestede by the end of the week, as he looks to fend off interest from Norwich and Watford for the striker's signature.
What would Gestede bring to Aston Villa?
Gestede possesses a similar frame to Benteke, and his game is much like the Belgian's too; he's a strong target man figure who thrives in the air, feeding off crosses into the box with great effect.
The next logical move for the Benin international is to join a Premier League club, having been simply dominant in the Championship ever since joining Blackburn.
Joining Villa, who based their game around Benteke under Sherwood, could be the ideal move for Gestede, who would thrive in a similar situation next season.
