Liverpool fans react to Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren's performance against Malaysia XI on Twitter

The centre-back duo played the whole 90 minutes of Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Malaysia XI on their pre-season tour.

Liverpool duo Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren were in action during the Reds' fourth pre-season friendly of the summer as they tried to find some kind of solidity going into the new season.

The duo, Lovren in particular, had been criticised for much of last season as they failed to tighten up at the back, making errors that were entirely preventable, and were detrimental to the side.

After Mamadou Sakho had played in a 60-minute training match for the Reds the day before, Brendan Rodgers opted to play Skrtel and Lovren on Friday and within 15 minutes they were found wanting after a mix-up from the pair led to Patrick Ronaldinho opening the scoring for the Malaysian side.

Lovren seems to receive the brunt of criticism from a lot of fans, and today was no exception - especially considering he could have had a hat-trick but spurned some great chances in front of goal. The Reds' equaliser came courtesy of a terrific strike from Jordon Ibe - probably taking the title as the best of pre-season so far.

Fans on Twitter did not seem too impressed with Lovren afterwards, but there are those who felt he got a raw deal when it comes to criticism from others - suggesting that Skrtel also put in a poor showing.

Here is a selection of the reaction on Twitter:
