The Frenchman was Ligue 2's Player of the Season last term.
Last season saw Diafra Sakho surprise many with his ability for West Ham United, after only previously scoring goals in France’s lower tiers. After a 20 goal Ligue 2 season however he managed 12 with West Ham in his debut season, not a bad return.
One of last season’s Ligue 2 top scorers will also be playing in England from next season, with recently promoted Bristol City. He might just send the ambitious Robins to the Premier League.
Jonathan Kodjia netted 15 times for Angers last season, second only to Le Havre’s Mickael Le Bihan, and this week signed for Bristol City.
The club spent around £2 million on the player, according to the BBC and have got themselves a real talent perfectly suited to Championship football.
He is fast, strong, hard-working, inventive and composed. Add to that ability in the air and you have the perfect Championship striker.
His delicate chip finished have also become the talk of folklore in the French lower division, ‘Messi-esque’ you might say.
He is not just a finisher though. His poise and technical prowess means he brings other players into the game at ease.
One major concern will be his left-foot. It is good for standing on at the moment and that is about it. He never uses it and that will frustrate City fans, unless Steve Cotteril can ween him off his right-foot comfort blanket.
However, with Kodjia in their side, Bristol City must not be taken lightly this season. They might just be this term’s Brentford.
