The Tottenham Hotspur defender has praised some of the newer members of the squad.
Indeed, the Belgian says some of the White Hart Lane oufit's summer signings - and youngsters - have been doing 'fantastically well' during pre-season.
Vertonghen was discussing Tottenham's training routines, as well as their friendly matches going into the new Premier League campaign.
He told Tottenham's official site: "We know that fitness if very important and we’re training very hard but we try to put the same effort in during the games as well.
"We’ve also got a bunch of new lads and some younger guys who are doing fantastically well and these games are a great chance for them to show what their qualities are and for us to learn new things as well."
Making an impression
Pre-season is the best time for those not already established at Spurs to make an impression, with youngsters such as Harry Winks and Shaq Coulthirst impressing in training.
Dele Alli's debut goal against Brentford was also an obvious boost for Tottenham, while even members of the youth squad have been standing out, with Ugo Ehiogu singling out Cy Goddard in particular last weekend.
The older summer signings, too, need to make their mark, especially as there could yet be more recruits on the way at White Hart Lane. Saido Berahino has been increasingly linked recently, as per the Daily Mirror, while Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko is another name that has been thrown into the Spurs mix, according to the Daily Telegraph.
