Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has hit out at the worst tackle he has ever been on the receiving end of after coming off injured against Swindon Town on Tuesday night.
Indeed, the 23-year-old had been primed for his Villa return, having spent some of last season on loan at Championship side Nottingham Forest. Ahead of his Premier League dream, though, Gardner suffered a tackle that will now keep him out of action for several weeks.
But, despite the 'outrageous tackle,' the Aston Villa youngster has revealed that the damage is not major enough to have kept him out for several months. Instead, Gardner says he is reacting to a 'minor setback.'
The injury update will no doubt be a relief for Villa fans but the injury itself creates further problems for Tim Sherwood in midfield. Tom Cleverley, on loan with Villa last season, joined Everton this summer, while Fabian Delph has left for Manchester City.
Idrissa Gueye has been brought in, although Gardner's return promised plenty and now keeps Aston Villa's midfield a man shorter in the near future.
