Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has told Sport Magazine that he is hugely competitive even during training sessions.
“Oh, I’ve definitely got a fiery side to me!” the England international told Sport Magazine when asked if he is a fiery character.
“I’m a very competitive person and I always want the best. I never settle for anything, so there are times maybe when, for example, we lose in training – I go into a strop.
“If I miss a few chances, I go mad at myself. I’m definitely a fiery character, but I think I use that in a positive way.”
Townsend has been on the books of Tottenham his entire career, but he has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer.
According to a report in The Daily Star earlier this month, Premier League trio Newcastle United, Sunderland and Aston Villa are all interested in signing the Englishman from Spurs this summer.
The 24-year-old is largely an average footballer, but his comments about being competitive indicate that he is always willing to improve himself.
The Premier League is very tough and skills alone cannot always make a player successful – hard work, determination and willingness to fight are hugely important.
While Townsend is not a very skilful player, his competitive nature will be a boon to Newcastle, Sunderland or Villa – if indeed they are interested in him and sign him this summer.
