Two former Leeds wingers they could re-sign for free who would improve their options

Should Leeds United re-sign any of these former wingers?

Leeds United's transfer business this summer is one or two winger's short of being very impressive.

A particular problem has continued to emerge on the left, with Casper Sloth once again displaying he is not cut out for the role, anonymous in the friendly loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Uwe Rosler said this week to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he is working to a budget, well there is nothing quite as cheap as signing a player for free.

In fact there are two former Leeds United wingers, who both enjoyed spells at the club on loan, whose presence in the squad would improve their current options.

Jerome Thomas

Former Charlton winger Jerome Thomas was released by Crystal Palace this summer, and at present remains a free agent. The 32-year-old is a former England under-21 international, who began his career in Arsenal's academy.

He played on loan with Leeds during the 2012/13 season, joining from West Brom, and played seven times, scoring once.

Earlier this month he was linked by Romanian outlet Fanatik with a move to Steaua Bucharest, but it is always possible he may prefer a more familiar new home at Elland Road.

He could expect to play regularly in his natural position on the left, and on a free, could be worth a flier.

Jermaine Pennant

Jermaine Pennant's career had seemed over last season, until desperate Wigan Athletic took a chance on him as a free agent in February.

Another former Arsenal youngster, Pennant proved a real success at Wigan, netting on his debut and proving still to be a specialist from dead ball situations. Also 32, he netted three times in 13 games for the Latics, and won over fans despite their relegation.

Despite interest from the League One side in a permanent deal, Pennant has not signed yet, perhaps holding out for a better offer.

A free transfer to a side in Leeds where he spent a whole season on loan in 2003/04 would be surprising, but he would also be an upgrade on the club's current wide options- and again most importantly would come cheap.
