Tottenham fans debate whether Saido Berahino would be a good signing for the club

Tottenham Hotspur could definitely use an extra striker before the end of the current transfer window.

The London Evening Standard recently suggested that England under-21 striker Saido Berahino is still a target for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new season.

The paper’s report suggests that the forward could be available for around £15 million, which is certainly within the realms of what Tottenham would be able to afford.

It’s not an excessive fee and the players who have already left the club this summer, have created space in terms of the wage structure for chairman Daniel Levy to be able to put the player onto a good deal.

Tottenham fans commenting across the site have debated whether a move for Berahino would represent good value for the club.

Mat Wan: If he is priced over 20M, I don't think we should sign him. Someone like Austin for 15M will sound like a better option

Sheikh352: I believe he is someone who, if given a chance, would knuckle down under the influence of Pochettino and senior figures at the Club

Mr Greaves: Berahino would be a good fit for us. £15-20m is the level

Stoner: Berahino - he's English, has PL experience and can also give us width on the wing as well if needed

Chris: Berahino I've got grave misgivings over

The need for a new striker

Tottenham definitely need a new striker in their squad to offer some support to Harry Kane.

Kane excelled last season and ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer, but he can’t carry the Tottenham attack over all competitions over the next year.

He needs someone in the squad who can help to take some of the pressure and responsibility away from him, as well as giving manager Mauricio Pochettino a decent option in a wide area.
