Recent Leeds United loanee Adryan provides three assists in Nantes friendly

Discarded by Leeds United, Adryan is off to a positive start at Nantes.

Brazilian prospect Adryan has a fresh chance to make a name for himself in Europe, and is hoping it will be third time lucky.

The former youth international has seen his star wane after unsuccessful spells with Cagliari and then Leeds United, but has since signed a season long loan deal with French Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The playmaker stood out last night in a pre-season friendly against Lorient, providing three assists in a 4-1 victory.

The performance will go some way to winning over Nantes fans, who treated his arrival with some scepticism after his failure to make an impact at Leeds.

Adryan looked to be establishing himself last Autumn, providing two assists in 11 games, but as the side went on a losing run in December, he was dropped and did not even make Neil Redfearn's substitute for much of the remainder of the campaign.

Benefits of a pre-season

Adryan proved too expensive a gamble for Leeds to want to sign on a permanent basis from Flamengo, but he also featured amid an unstable season which saw three permanent managers.

Pre-season at Nantes could be vital to his success, for at Leeds a year ago he only made his debut in October, having signed in late August and being judged as not up to speed physically for the rigours of the Championship.

Adryan's talent has never been in doubt, but French website Foot-Sur7 expressed in late June that his physical limitations could hold him back at Nantes.

The hope is that at Leeds he developed as a player even when out of the side, and the more technical football in France will be better suited to his qualities. If he can take his pre-season form and reproduce it consistently in Ligue 1, then he could finally fulfil his potential.
