Are these Manchester United training photos linked to Cristiano Ronaldo return?

Old Trafford Statues

Avi Glazer watched Manchester United train in California, with Sir Alex Ferguson in tow... on the same day Cristiano Ronaldo was linked with a blockbuster move.

The Glazer family may be frequently heard behind the scenes at Old Trafford, but in public they are rarely seen.

Since launching a controversial takeover in 2005, the US based owners have kept a deliberately low profile.

Now a decade on, they are seemingly a little more confident, talking with and chatting to players and managers past and present during the club's pre-season tour.

United are currently in California preparing for a pre-season friendly game against Barcelona, and Avi Glazer was at training.

He is one of the sons of Malcolm Glazer, who fronted the takeover, and died in May 2014.

It may just be a snapshot, but Louis van Gaal appeared focused on the task at hand despite Avi Glazer's discussion with him.

Glazer was also pictured talking to new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger, an addition from Bayern Munich.

And who else should pop up but legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, observing the training sessions along with former club captain Bryan Robson.

Now for a little conspiracy theory...

With the Manchester Evening News reporting the club are plotting a huge offer to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo, surely it is not a coincidence the club owners are in close discussions with Van Gaal on the day the reports broke.

Ronaldo maintains big admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson, and with Glazer, Van Gaal, and Fergie all together, could there have been a behind the scenes discussion about how to approach such a huge move? With all the big players together, there would be no better time to progress the deal.

The Real Madrid star even dedicated his man-of-the-match award at the Spanish Super Cup last season to Sir Alex, as reported The Mail. The Metro reported in March that Sir Alex Ferguson even met personally with Ronaldo, and talked to him about potentially returning to Old Trafford.

Manchester Evening News report Ronaldo is unsettled amid Rafa Benitez's appointment and Carlo Ancelotti's sacking, and the departure of close pal Iker Casillas.
