New Liverpool signing James Milner explained at a press conference, covered by the Liverpool Echo’s live blog, that he feels as though he has been part of the club’s squad for much longer, following a move from Manchester City.
Milner has settled right down and is having an instant impact at his new club, justifying why Brendan Rodgers decided to bring him into the Liverpool first team ahead of a very important season.
Milner is showing no signs of needing any notion of a settling in period, which is a very encouraging sign for the manager who can now instantly rely on the player.
“It feels like I've been here a lot longer than I have. Everybody needs to get to know each other and keep moving,” said Milner.
“No one puts more pressure on myself to perform than I do.”
How Milner has taken some pressure away from Rodgers
Rodgers will be delighted that it looks as though Milner is a player that he can instantly trust at the club.
The new midfielder has taken pressure off Rodgers because he’s helped to partly soften the impact of Steven Gerrard’s exit from Anfield.
He offers the manager an option in a variety of different positions, which will be important over the course of a long season.
Sign of cleverness from Rodgers
His comments are also evidence of the intelligence used by Rodgers in terms of the type of player he wanted to approach.
He’s settled in so quickly, partly because of the Premier League experience he already has and that’s something which will definitely help him to have an impact as the club battles through some very difficult opening fixtures.
