Ramos is already at 'the best team in the world' and 'wants to stay' according to Modric.
In what is being referred to by sections of the Spanish media, as a 'cold war' between Manchester United and Real Madrid, the respective futures of David De Gea and Sergio Ramos continues to generate much speculation.
In comments to Europa Press, quizzed for his thoughts about the 29-year-old centre-back, Luka Modric underlined why is keen to see his colleague reject any temptation to join Manchester United.
"Hopefully he'll be staying, because he's very important for us. He's our captain and our leader, on and off the pitch." Explained the Croatian international.
Modric also assured: "I think he will stay, because for me he's the best defender in the world and he has to be at the best team in the world."
When asked if the players have been urging Ramos to remain at Real Madrid, Modric insisted: "We don't need to ask him for anything, because he wants to stay."
The Real Madrid squad are currently in Australia preparing for their International Champions Cup encounter with Manchester, who have also been linked with interest in Ramos, before setting of for China and the next stage of their pre-season schedule.
According to Marca, club president Florentino Perez will be jetting out to Asia next week, where he'll be hoping to convince Ramos his future remains with Los Blancos.
