Leeds United manager Uwe Rosler recently told the club’s website that Nicky Ajose wasn’t part of the club’s current overseas pre-season tour, because he’s been told he’ll find game time difficult at Elland Road this season.
That suggests that the future for the talented attacker is up in the air, leaving him with a decision to make in terms of whether he stays at Leeds and fights for his place or whether he takes a loan or permanent move away from the club.
He can take care of a wide role, which is a current problem for Leeds but the boss seems to have nailed his colours to the mast in terms of considering other options, before he turns to Ajose to fill a role in the team.
Here’s what a selection of Leeds fans, who have made comments across the website, make of Ajose and his current situation.
Graham Collett: too many players in his position ? excuse me but he seems to be the ONLY winger we have !
Chris m: the guy is simply not good enough
ForeverLUFC: Fair enough we have too many strikers, but we have no pace and no wingers. Ajose can play on the wing and has pace
Dale Reid: To be fair I'd sell Morison and Ajose but not Sharp!
Fred: Leeds desperately need a pacey left winger, who will be a constant threat to the opposition and there is no reason why it should affect Taylor, Berardi or Ajose's careers at Leeds
JDC: I hope he makes a success of his opportunity if it comes
The likely scenario
Rosler will be looking for an affordable winger he can bring into the club via the transfer market.
It won’t be easy for him to get the right man and if he fails, he does have other options he can use in wide positions such as full-backs Sam Byram and Charlie Taylor, as well as forward Lee Erwin.
If Ajose stays where he is, he will have to first, work hard to get an opportunity which will require immense patience and second, take that chance emphatically when it arrives.
Whether he shows the necessary level of patience remains to be seen.
