The prospect of Danny Welbeck playing in Turkey could set up two familiar reunions for the Arsenal striker.
Turkish outlet Aksam has reported the England international is a transfer target for Besiktas, with the English Premier League presently a popular recruitment ground for Super Lig sides.
Aksam report Welbeck is one of three strikers Besiktas are targeting, along with Mario Gomez of Fiorentina and Mario Balotelli of Liverpool.
An Arsenal rivalry
Welbeck being allowed to leave Arsenal after just one season to go and play in Turkey does sound unlikely, but there have already been bigger surprises this transfer window.
One of the major coups was Fenerbahce pulling off a deal to sign former Arsenal captain Robin van Persie from Manchester United for just £4 million.
Welbeck and Van Persie would lead the lines for their respective sides, and also go head to head with a player already sold by Arsenal this summer, Lukas Podolski who was signed by Galatasaray.
The Turkish Super Lig is not really a must watch for Arsenal fans, but if Welbeck, Podolski and Van Persie were all scrapping for wins on a regular basis with one another, it would certainly be a little more interesting.
Welbeck and Van Persie were former teammates at Manchester United, but after leaving for Arsenal, the England striker scored the important goal to win a crucial FA Cup tie at Old Trafford which proved pivotal in their pursuit of the trophy.
It is likely Welbeck would want to continue at Arsenal where he has struggled to dislodge Olivier Giroud, but if the Gunners do sign another big name striker, his future would come under more scrutiny.
