Recently released Sheffield Wednesday defender Matt Young finds new club in Conference

The right-back is on the verge of completing a move to join newly promoted Barrow.

Former Sheffield Wednesday right-back Matt Young looks set to find himself a new team following his release from the Yorkshire club this summer, with Barrow AFC set to snap him up.

The manager of the Conference Premier side, who were promoted from the Conference North last season, Darren Edmondson has told the North West Evening Mail that only ‘small things’ need tying up before the deal can go through.

Young, who has been on trial with the club, would be an ambitious signing from the club, considering the talent he clearly possesses.

Sheffield Wednesday signed him last summer after he was deemed surplus to requirements at the famous Southampton academy.

However, he never played for Wednesday, instead enjoying a good loan spell at Carlisle United during the second half of last season. He played 20 games in 2015 for The Cumbrians but did not do enough to earn himself another year at Wednesday.

Now he finds himself at an ambitious team, aiming to break into the Football League. If he can show similar form to that he showcased at Brunton Park last season he might just be proving Sheffield Wednesday wrong higher up the ladder in the years to come.
