In front of over 93,000 eager fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, former Liverpool stars Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez were reunited, as Los Angeles Galaxy took on treble champions Barcelona in the International Champions Cup.
A fond embrace and words between the pair of ex-Reds, as the teams headed out onto the pitch, ready to turn back the clock thousands of miles away from their old stomping ground of Anfield.
Into the action and it was Gerrard who found himself the busier man for Galaxy, as Barcelona set about with their customary dominance of possession, the English midfield icon battling Sergio Busquets for the ball in the centre.
Suarez almost opened the scoring mid-way through the half, as the Catalans continued to press their dominance. A great effort from distance just whizzing beyond the post, before Sergi Roberto was denied by the fingertips of the LA Galaxy keeper moments later
Right on the stroke of half-time, a precise cross from Bartra found Suarez inside the area. The Uruguayan controlled well and showed no mercy, with a clinical finish to beat Rowe.
For the ex-Liverpool stars, those first 45 minutes would be the end of their contribution to the game. But it was another opportunity for Gerrard and Suarez to demonstrate their fondness and respect for one another, with an exchange of shirts as they left the pitch.
The second-half of the encounter saw plenty more changes from the two sides. Barcelona continuing to dominate and Sergio Roberto adding a second goal.
Seemingly content with their advantage, Barcelona appeared to take their foot off the gas, having shown a good level of intensity for their first encounter of pre-season.
Galaxy looked to make the most of that and in the end, they were rewarded with a goal in the very last minute, as Meyer headed home a corner. 2-1 Barcelona the final score.
