Newcastle United prospect Rolando Aarons reminded fans of his outstanding potential with a valuable contribution in their latest pre-season game.
Aarons scored two goals and provided the cross for new signing Giorginio Wijnaldum to net, even if he could not stop his side losing.
Newcastle were on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline against Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers, with their defence once again looking suspect.
Aarons performance was however the big takeaway, offering another glimpse as to what he is capable of if he can stay healthy.
The youngster stood out for Newcastle in the early part of last season, playing a key role in a win over Liverpool, but a troublesome hamstring injury kept him out of the side and delayed his progress.
His display was also a reminder of the urgency for Newcastle to tie the youngster down to a new contract, with his present deal set to expire in a year's time.
The Mirror reported only in March that Arsenal and Liverpool were both interested in his services, and after his latest performance it's easy to see why.
Here is a look at how Newcastle fans reacted to his two goal show...
Aside from assist & two goals, Aarons actually had as poor a game as I've seen him have. Same goes for Ayoze. Both got huge potential though— Keith (@nufckeithr) July 22, 2015
So now sign Austin & 2 CB OH & GIVE Rolando Aarons whatever he wants to sign a 10 year contract #nufc— Skirgey (@Skirgey) July 22, 2015
Take positives. The development of Rolando Aarons for example. A player who can make a contribution this season. #Nufc not doom & gloom— Jonathan Grieve (@jonniegrieve) July 22, 2015
